The ATM feature is turned off by the default installation process for such SAP ASE based applications as SAP Business Suite or SAP Business Objects.
This leaves the database maintenance tasks such as update statistics and various reorg / dbcc commands unaccounted for.
I have customers raising the following questions as a result:
1. What is the SAP policy on turning on the default ATM profiles for SAP applications?
2. Should ATM be left turned off completely (meaning no automatic database maintenance procedures for SAP application running on ASE)?
3. Should ATM be turned on manually with only update statistics default jobs enabled?
4. Should ATM be turned on in full capacity - update statistics and reorg - using the default templates ATM comes with?
5. What maintenance plans should the customers set up for large tables (as reorg skips most of these)?
6. What and how database consistency checks shall be performed on ASE - should these be written and incorporated manually into SM or should they be abandoned completely?
If there are official guidelines / related SAP notes on these issues, please update.
Thank you,
Andrew
