I am trying to load a dump taken from Server A with Sybase ASE 15.7 SP100 to Server B with ASE 15.7 SP62
Server A
Adaptive Server Enterprise/15.7/EBF 21152 SMP SP100 /P/x86_64/Enterprise Linux/ase157sp100/3426/64-bit/FBO/Sat May 4 03:37:47 2013
Server B
Adaptive Server Enterprise/15.7.0/EBF 22601 SMP SP62 /P/PPC64/Linux/ase157sp6x/3350/64-bit/FBO/Fri Apr 18 00:26:17 2014
I get the message "You cannot load this dump because it contains functionality that is available only on the server on which it was dumped."
I get this message while loading db even after setting sp_dboption 'deallocate first text page' to false and dumped .
I am in the processe of resyncing warm standby replication.
How do I load this database. I need a solution to this ASAP please treat this as urgent
Hi,
We've been frequently receiving the below dumps in our production system from last 2-3 days and users are not able to perform any task and we're near to downtime,
Category Installation Errors
Runtime Errors DBSQL_SQL_ERROR
Except. CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
Date and Time 10.04.2016 10:19:23
Short Text
SQL error "SQL code: 2843" occurred while accessing table "VBERROR".
What happened?
Database error text: "SQL message: [ASE Error SQL2843][SAP][ASE ODBC
Driver][Adaptive Server Enterprise]The dynamic statement 'J4' could not be
found. This may be due to insufficient metadata descriptors. Increase the
serverwide 'number of open objects' parameter or the 'procedure cache size' parameter."
Our production landscape environment is as below,
- SAP ERP 6.0 EHP7 (Kernel 7.42 PL300)
- SAP ASE 15.7 SP132
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- 2 nodes in Microsoft Failover Clustering with additional 2 application servers
Surprisingly we haven't received this error (not even once) in any of the other systems (Sandbox, Development, Quality, Training & Pre-production) in the landscape. All are on the same packages level and kernel version.
We've raised a support ticket with SAP and first thing they asked was to increase the "open objects" parameter by 30% (previously 60000) and send the sp_monitorconfig 'all' output and sybdiag zip file.
We did it and the next thing they asked was to increase the "open partitions" parameter to 80000 (previously 50000).
We did that also but the issue is not resolved yet. SAP again asked for sp_monitorconfig output and we've send it and waiting for response...
I am not an expert in ASE but from the below output of sp_monitorconfig 'all', one could easily make out that the "max memory", "open indexes" and "procedure cache" is hitting 100% percent.
Does it has to do anything with the issue?
P.S.: No parameters were changed except for "open objects", "open partitions", "max memory" and "heap memory per user". Also I've complied with the SAP note 1749935 - SYB: Configuration Guide for SAP ASE 15.7 and executed SAP Configuration Check from DBA Cockpit and couldn't find anything amiss.

Hello,
after switching from Oracle to Sybase two years ago (customer wish) I had to set up some standby databases, that works and the these standby dbs running fine, until a few days ago. One standby stops working during applying some transaction logs. Normally I would load the latest backup of the <SID> db and start applying again from that point, but the database service (Win2k8 R2 SP1) stops working. The service stays in starting mode, the log file doesn't log an error!
I didn't found a way to get the service running again, so I decided to reinstall the whole standby system.
Newest SWPM, uninstall > install (what's new, SWPM added new sybase users even they exists in AD (productiv side) (I had to change the user on the PRD system, because the internal windows id was changed)
So, Sybase service is running fine again and the SAP system was up.
Next step was, to reload the master db with the newest backup, start single user modus and loaded master db successfully.
After that, I started Sybase via service and logged on, and get the following error message:
Msg 921, Level 14, State 1: Server 'SID': Database 'saptools' has not been recovered yet - please wait and try again. Msg 4001, Level 11, State 1: Server 'SID': Cannot open default database 'saptools'.
In the SID.log I get the following error messages: (just the main part)

I didn't see an error like this before and I don't know how the "sybsystemprocs" db get marked as "suspect".

Any idea how to get back to a "working" Sybase database?

Even in the "managed system configuartion " setep 8 i got the error for the "Database extractor Setup":

Hello friends,
During system copy from oracle > ASE, we got below errors for some of packages. I just repeated them and they worked next time (It looked to me something similar to temp tablespace of oracle db)
Can you please help me to understand why this came and what should i increase(any database ? parameter ?) to avoid this in next migrations ?

Everybody using SAP Replication Server with SAP ASE and SAP Business Suite should have a look at the following document:

Hi community,
I'm starting reading/reading again some chapters of 'ASE 15.7 Performance and Tuning Series: Query Processing and Abstract Plans'.
I think I get the 'big picture' of the need of the optimizer but I'm looking for way to better understand it and the information it needs to provide the best plan to the execution engine.
Is there any document/presentation that will present a kind of 'hands-on understanding the optimizer'?
For example, I get a rough image when I read this
"
The query optimizer processes join predicates the same way it processes search
arguments, in that it uses statistics, number of rows in the table, index heights,
and the cluster ratios for the index and data pages to determine which index and
join method provides the cheapest access. In addition, the query optimizer also
uses join density estimates derived from join histograms that give accurate
estimates of qualifying joining rows and the rows to be scanned in the outer and
inner tables. The query optimizer also must decide on the optimal join ordering
that will yield the most efficient query plan. The next sections describe the key
techniques used in processing joins.
