My customer want to know whether ASE is affected by the following OpenSSL vulnerability in http://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20140605.txt

      SSL/TLS MITM vulnerability (CVE-2014-0224),

      DTLS recursion flaw (CVE-2014-0221)

      DTLS invalid fragment vulnerability (CVE-2014-0195)

      SSL_MODE_RELEASE_BUFFERS NULL pointer dereference (CVE-2014-0198)

      SSL_MODE_RELEASE_BUFFERS session injection or denial of service (CVE-2010-5298)

      Anonymous ECDH denial of service (CVE-2014-3470)

ASE database user for read-only access

Hi everybody.

 

We have just migrate our QA SAP system to ASE. In our old database we use a database user for some of our custom-made aplications that read some information direct to the SAP database. Can anybody tell me how can I create a user like this in ASE?. I'm connecting with TOAD but I can see the way to give it the right authorizations. Is there a way to grant only some Z* tables?.

ASE displaying high %MEM in 'top'

Hi All

 

I have an ASE 15.7 dataserver running BW on Linux that (according to the network admin) is displaying very high memory usage.
This is causing memory swap to kick in. I can see dataserver is using on avg. 86.8% of memory and all the BWP_01_DIA_* is using a bit of memory as well. eg. BWP_01_DIA_W5, BWP_01_BTC_W32,

occasionally it spikes to over 100%, thus swap kicking in.

 

Is this normal behaviour? How does one check what is consuming the memory?

What %MEM as displayed in "top" on Linux is considered normal?

 

The environment details are:

Adaptive Server Enterprise/15.7/EBF 22779 SMP SP122 /P/x86_64/Enterprise Linux/ase157sp12x/3662/64-bit/FBO/Sat Apr 19 05:48:19 2014

DBACOCKPIT saptools

Dear Experts,

 

In our organization there is no Database Administrator.I only the BASIS administrator.

 

Now i am facing one issue.In DBACOCKPIT when we going to configure any thing it is showing "Repair Data Collector".

Instructions from SAP support team, saptools size is 2 GB ,Now we need extend it to 10 GB.So please tell me how to

perform this action.

Master database tran log filling up

Multiple entries logged daily.

Sybase cumulative backup vs traditional log backup

In ASE 15.7 SP100 or higher versions, cumulative backups are supported. My question is, can both cumulative backup and log backup run at the same time for a database?

 

For example, say, at time t1, we have a completed full backup (full1) of database foo, and

at time t2, we have the first log backup completed, log1.

Now, a cumulative backup is running, and another log backup (log2) starts, and finishes at time t3 while the cumulative backup is still running.

The cumulative backup (cml1) finishes at time t4.

Another log backup (log3) finishes at time t5.

 

Is it a valid scenario (to let log2 and cml1 run at the same time), or does an application (which performs Sybase backups using 3rd party API) need to prevent such concurrent cumulative and log backups?

 

If it is valid to run both concurrently (does not result in data corruption), then

 

  • to restore the database up to a time between t2 and t3, we will use full1 + log1 + log2 upto the target time.

 

  • to restore the database up to a time between t4 and t5, we will use full1 + cml1 + log3 upto the target time.

 

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Server starting slow

Dear Expert,

 

 

 

I have DEV-QAS-PRD server and dev & qas server are installed on one box which is power server AIX 7.1 .

i have sybase database.Development server is taking start-up long time but Quality server is taking whiting 2 minutes for start-up .

After development server start sap is working very slow  like transport Request are taking long time for release.

I have checked start up profile in development server.there are not any error or message .

Update ASE using saphostctrl (SAPNote 1982469)

Hi all, i was trying to update my ASE dbms using the above mentioned note but i can't find the folder called "hostctrl" using the directory indicated (usr\sap\hostctrl\work\<SAPSID>) in which it tells to place the script 'syb_update_db.txt'

 

I found the saphostctrl executable instead in C:\Program Files\SAP\hostctrl\work but no <SID> folder...

 

Since i'm stuck any help would be appreciated

TMS error

Dear Experts,

 

 

We are facing an issue which is related to TMS. I found so many answers in scn.sap.com  But it is not resolved.We have three system landscape. DEV server is the domain controller. STMS_IMPORT transaction code is working fine in QAS but in PRD server we are getting an error.

The error is

 

 

This is tp version 380.07.22 (release 740, unicode enabled)

E-\\192\sapmnt\trans\bin\TP_DOMAIN_MID.PFL could not be opened.

EXIT

Error in \\192\sapmnt\trans\bin\TP_DOMAIN_MID.PFL: transdir not set.

 

tp returncode summary:

 

TOOLS: Highest return code of single steps was: 0

ERRORS: Highest tp internal error was: 0208

 

 

From the transaction code AL11 trans folder also accessing.

 

 

Please give me suggestions on this.

Can you Please provide the Steps Clearly For scheduling Backup From DBAcockpit, i Downloaded the Scripts from SAPnote.then after that please provide the steps from starting to End.

Sybase ASE installation source for warm standby replication server

Hi,

 

Has anyone tried installing only Sybase ASE using installation source downloaded from Service Market Place(SWDC). usually i installed it bundle with SAP apps (netweaver/ERP)

 

Purposes:

the installaton source to be installed on warm standby server (replicate target server) as we're planning to implement Sybase Replication Server 15.7.1 sp122 into existing SAP system (ERP ehp7 sybase 15.7 sp65).

isql: command not found

Hi Experts,

 

I just installed SAP EHP7 with SYBASE ASE 15.7.0.122 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.5 (Santiago).

 

When I am trying to connect to isql with the user: syb<sid> and with the command:

 

isql -Usapsa -S<SID> -X but it it giving the error output as: isql: command not found

 

I also tried the command from the path: /sybase/<SID>/OCS-15_0/bin but giving the same error but it is getting connected with the command:

 

isql64 -Usapsa -S<SID> -X

 

I have checked the permission and owner of the files that are properly set and I though that this is the problem with the environment variables but I believe all are properly set. FYR.. the below are the environment variable:

Sybase ASE database administration - isql commands and a graphical application

Hello,

 

I installed yesterday a SAP Solution Manager in Windows Server 2012 (R2) with SAP Sybase ASE database version 16.0.

 

I´m newest in SAP Sybase ASE database and I don´t know how to do the administration tasks in this type of database!

 

I made the download of DBA Guide - SAP BS on SAP Sybase AS Enterprise guide but I don´t see any explanation about isql and which isql commands exist and how to I use them... and everything else! I can not even do the basics, for example I don´t know how to start and stop the sybase database with the isql application... even how to log in on sybase... I don´t know anything about it!

 

Other question is also about the SAP Sybase ASE database administration... is there anygraphicalsoftwareenvironmentthat allowsthe administrationof the same like for example the SQL Server Management Studio in MS SQL Server database) and the Oracle Enterprise Administration in Oracle DB environment...!? 

 

Can you help me please?

Upgrade from 15.7.0.121 to 16.0.00.01 with saphostctrl

Hello,

 

I want to upgrade to the new 16 version on windows 2008R2, but i can't start the major upgrade. I have followed note 1982469 - SYB: Updating SAP ASE with saphostctrl / sapdbctrl but when I run the command

.\saphostctrl -user sidadm password -function LiveDatabaseUpdate -dbname TST -dbtype syb -updatemethod Execute -updateoption TASK=UPDATE_ASE -updateoption DROP_LOCATION="N:\SYBASEASE"

it fails saying:

I have a file called dbsrvresp_update.txt where i saw the DO_UPDATE_INSTALL=true and changed it to false and tried again, but it failed the same way.

The whole note is written as if it's intended only for updates for 15.7 or only 16, but not for a major upgrade from 15.7 to 16 and i am trying to figure out if I have to modify the syntax of my command or if there are other steps.

I have placed the syb_update_db.txt file where it should be, the application server is off, database is on and i checked the rsecssfx entries.
