Sybase Support - What is SAP plans for its future?

$

0

As an official re-seller and representative of Sybase products in Israel, I have been using Sybase technical support facilities available through the old www.sybase.com portal.   As this slowly but steadily dies, what is the alternative SAP provides?

I need an urgent access to the EBFs download page in order to support one of my customers - what is the new link?  Is there a transition path for old credentials approved by Sybase to SAP so that I may continue to access the resources that were available to me in Sybase?

I need also an urgent access to Sybase case-express system in order to treat one of a critical cases with yet another Sybase local custmer - what is the link for that?

It is very unhelpful that the transition from Sybase portal to SAP portal is not made invisible to all the users that were using the portal for crucial support functions approved by Sybase in the past.  It would be a good idea to track the active customers of the site (say, MySybase users with technical support privileges) and provide them alternative solution for the functions they were willing with their customers before these functions are disabled on Sybase.com.   Not doing this disrupts normal support operation with customers and creates bad reputation for both those catering the support and Sybase/SAP.

Any quick help on this available from SAP headquarters?

Thanks.

jConnect 5.5 (jconn2.jar) with ASE 15.7 or ASA 16?

$

We have a Java1.3 application and wanted to know if it can work with ASE 15.7 and/or ASA 16.

I have tested it with ASE 15.7, so far so good. After all, we are not using any Sybase-specific feature.

However, I would like to know, if there is any document or reference, talking about the compatibility of jConnect 5.5 (jconn2.jar)?

Something like this page?

http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1065550

And I read in this page that, ASE 15.7 has a compatibility mode for 12.5 user. Does it help in my case (compatibility with jConnect 5.5)?

Sybase ASE DB Backup Configuration Issue

Hello All,

We are using Sybase ASE 15.7.0.42 on RHEL Linux. I am trying to configure the DB backups for the first time.  After going through SAP Note 1588316 , I created the dump configurations for both the DB and the temp logs. The local filesystems are also in place. However when I try to set the parameter 'enable dump configuration' using sp_configure it gives me an error as below;

1> sp_configure "enable dump configuration" , 1
2> go
Msg 18124, Level 16, State 1:

I was going through a few other links and found that there is another parameter 'enforce dump configuration' which should be set to 1 to enforce the dump configurations that I have created.

Request somebody to shed some light on this issue.

Thanks

Hi Friends,

We have installed a Syclo Agentry server 3.1 in a server which is in internal network. The Agentry server is accessible from the desktop clientinstalled within the network without any problem. But we are not able toaccess the server from outside the network.

Angel protocol is using 7003 port but as per our company policy we cannot open 7003 port to the outside network. We can only open SSL port (port 443). Because of this issue we are not able to move forward.

Please help to resolve this problem.

connecting/working with Chinese Sybase ASE database

$

i have question regarding problem i'm facing while working with Chinese Sybase ASE database

I'm trying to connect to a Chinese Sybase Adaptive Server on a machine with OS regional setting as China.

I'm connecting using ODBC from different Windows machine, so when using the regular ODBC connection string for connecting

( Such
as: “DRIVER={Adaptive Server Enterprise};SERVER=SYB-SRV;port=5000;UID=sa;DB=;”)

It fails with the following error message:

“RetCode:
SQL_ERROR  SqlState: 08S01 NativeError: 30016 Message: [Sybase][ODBC Driver]Bad TDS response stream received from server.

Unexpected end of reponse during login negotiation.”

When adding “charset=utf8” to the connection string we succeed to connect but, then I'm facing problems with calling other functions of the ODBC like SQLTables which is returning no data instead of returning existing tables and schemas.

can you please elaborate.

New disaster recovery capabilities now available for your SAP Business Suite applications running on SAP Sybase ASE – at no additional cost

New disaster recovery support for SAP Business Suite running on SAP Sybase ASE is now available: new functionality provided by SAP Sybase Replication Server helps enterprises running SAP Business Suite applications on SAP Sybase ASE avoid the cost and business risks of downtime during system disruptions, such as database upgrades, hardware failure, power outages, natural disaster or human error. SAP Sybase Replication Server is a low impact, warm standby solution that uses database replication software for high-speed transaction log replication and enables real-time failover to a secondary site – which can be located at any distance – and failback to the primary site when operation is restored.

With this new capability, you can easily create an integrated, highly available environment that allows you to continue to operate at full speed while mission-critical business data is synchronized continuously to a warm standby, enabling a near-zero downtime environment should the production system fail for any reason. With the cost of downtime so high, wouldn’t you like to ensure continuous availability of your application data?

SAP Sybase Replication Server is available to both new and existing customers of SAP Business Suite running on SAP Sybase ASE at no additional cost. Existing customers can access and download SAP Sybase Replication Server by logging in with their login credentials at the SAP Service Marketplace (service.sap.com) and selecting “Sybase Replication Server” under the “My Company’s Software” list.

Sorry to bother you, and thanks for reading my email Ive been researching about

Hi Folks, thanks for reading my questions

Ive been researching about doing update statistics on ASE 15.0.3 , and some things i cant find a clear docmentation referece...

1)  When doing a reorg rebuild, event that the indexes are effectively rebuilt, the statistics for all columns in the indexes are not collected along it.

Only for the leading column for the PK. So, its necessary to rerun update index statistics, in order to gather the statistics for the remaining columns in the indexes. Is this correct? If its necessary to collect the indexes, it would be realy helpful to DBAs to have this information on the following link

http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/topic/com.sybase.help.ase_15.0.commands/html/commands/commands78.htm

2)  Our standard procedure is to run “update index statistics table“ for all of our tables. We are planning to use sampling , but it seems  necessary to collect

a full table statistics for the given table in order to have sampling working as expected. Is it correct?  (we are using DOL tables). Could be possible to run update statistics on the PK first in order to have ASE to start using sampling properly?

3)  Its not clear to me if using “sampling” effectively makes update statistics to collect a lower number of pages. Im in doubt if ASE effectively reads all the pages

but discard information, or if it somehow uses the OAM in order to skip reading pages…    Is there a good reference for this?

Restore Sybase ASE database from PRD to QA for refresh purposes

Hello,

I am new to Sybase and am currently in a position where a distributed QA ECC system needs to be refreshed from production.  The database has already been backed up and 'restored' from PRD to QA.

I have no experience with restores/refreshes on Sybase.  My experience is with systems on DB2 databases where, after the DBAs performed a redirected restore, specific post-processing tasks were required based on the system type (primarly performed by Basis).

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

SMTP and TLS support for SAP applications

$

Last week I had a big trouble to solve: The Workflow guys needs to send emails but the customers smtp is on the cloud (outlook.com).

I looked for any solution for at least 8 weeks without found a light at the end of the tunnel. Last friday i found a solution that I want to share with you.

First, let me show you some detail of the entire enviroment. The is a implementations of SAP Baseline over Sybase ASE. The landscape is a three single servers as DEV, QAS and PRD and to manage the project, a Solution manager. Due the project is over Sybase ASE, the Baseline is over EHP6 (the minimal EHP that supports Sybase is 5)

The first step is make the initial setup, as sets up on RZ11 the parameters and bla, bla. My apologizes if want to see the initial steps here, but it isn´t waht i mean, but a steps beyond. If you need these initial steps, use the  Note 455140 - Configuration of e-mail, fax, paging or SMS using SMTP.

I am assuming that you have been done all steps described on this note. Let me share the solution that i found.

The customers SMTP is on the cloud, uses TLS over 587 TCP port and just accepting autenticated connections. Big trouble, isnt it?

First step - Bringing up an standard SMTP server

The entire Landscape is over Microsoft platform (Windows 2008 R2 64bit). On this platform, totally included on Operatinal System license is the IIS + SMTP server. The first thing to do is put the IIS6 + SMTP server up and runnig. Follow this cookbook.

ScreenShot001.jpg

ScreenShot002.jpg

Right click on computer, manage. Find Features, add features and Select SMTP

ScreenShot003.jpg

The Wizard will ask you to install some required components. You must install it, other hand the SMTP will not install.

ScreenShot004.jpg

After that, let me show what to configure. We will use this SMTP as a "Proxy" and be advised that if you try to send emails thought this server directly to others SMTPs, usually your server will be black listed due SMTP actual configurations and security agreements to configure its server. Keep in mind you are working on a trusted enviroment and the main requirement is not put a fully configured SMTP on a Internet but send emails from SAP to the cloud.

Turning back...

The SMTP configuration

Configure you new SMTP server to allow anonimous connections. Go to athentication button, located on access sheet.

ScreenShot005_b.jpg

Do not worry. We will secure the server on another way. Just for simplify you config on Netweaver (SCOT transaction), keep as showed here.

On the button connection, you can close the connections for you SAP server that needs the send the emails. But is optional. In my case, i kept it opened to all connections.

On the button Relay, configure it to allow just your SAP server or the servers you want to use this SMTP. This is a very import step: If you keep open relay, anyone on you net can use your server. For the project I kept it allowing the Network of the server allowing to relay emails thought it, because I will use it for entire landscape and future servers.

ScreenShot005.jpg

Be carefull on its configuration. observe that is configured it to allow just relay for the LAN!

Go to delivery sheet, Outgoing Security.

ScreenShot006.jpg

ScreenShot007.jpg

Here  configure the credentials for the SMTP server that the ISP gave to you. If it uses TLS as criptografy, remenber to check it. For security reasons, i replaced it here.

Go to Oubound connections and configure the right port to your SMTP connects to.

ScreenShot008.jpg

The secret resides here.Click on advanced and configure as bellow:

ScreenShot009.jpg

Configure the Smarthost here with the SMTP provided to you. If you configure this Smart host, all messages will be delivered just for this SMTP and this SMTP will be on charge to delivery to the internet.

Save the configurations, restart the SMTP and configure the SCOT to points to this  SMTP server.

Using as showed, you can connect to any SMTP server, using or not using cryptografy, using or not Authentications or any other configurations required for relay messages.

Of course, this solution was build on Microsoft, but you can do the same over the Linux using the millions of SMTP servers available. Just take some hours to configure the minimal but secured.

Best Regards!

See you soon!

Hi  Gurus,

We are getting one rare issue in our ERP server.

Two background jobs are consuming around 5 , 6  hours to complete. (which having the progam: SAPKKA07 ,  RKKKS000 )

If i restart the sap server and run the same background jobs,  it finishes  in less than 5 minutes.

I have found the plenty of resource available when it takes lots of time,  and sufficient DIA, BG work process are in waiting.

Still it consuming lot time to complete it..

environment:

Windows 2008, SAP ECC6.0  EHP6, Sybase 15.7

Could you please through some light on this, at least how to start the analysation:

as the job is successful does not contain much more log details, as compared to the job successful in less then 5 mins.

Thanks in Advance

Balaji
